 | | | | WELCOME | Welcome to Above the Bay web site. We are very much aware of how important it is to have a relaxing holiday, so please take this opportunity to browse the following pages to discover the many advantages we are proud to offer guests who choose to stay at Above The Bay. We are a small but far from ordinary B&B set in a modern, detached house occupying an unique elevated position enjoying superb panoramas of the surrounding area.
We are quite literally situated above Bowness Bay, overlooking the lake and the popular, bustling village of Bowness-on-Windermere, which nestles picturesquely on the shores of Lake Windermere, and which can be quite rightly described as the jewel in the crown of the Lake District National Park. The hustle and bustle of this energetic community reflects its status as the premiere place to visit in Cumbria in the majority of tourist itineraries.
We are only a short stroll (200 yards) from the centre of Bowness where the pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops satisfy most needs, or the lake, where everyone eventually gravitates, simply to enjoy the serene beauty and peace, or to participate in the manifold water activities offered around the Glebe such as boat hire, water-skiing, or embarking on one of the many pleasure cruises available throughout the year.We boast a private, secure, well lit car park providing more than ample parking for all our residents during their stay with us.One of our major attractions is being able to offer our guests free access to the select Parklands Country Club, which is one of the area's most prestigious leisure facilities, having a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, gymnasium, fitness room and bar among may other facilities too numerous to mention. We enjoy a non-smoking policy within the confines of the building, but are otherwise happy to welcome smokers. | | THINGS TO DO IN THE LAKE DISTRICT | | Apart from the obvious delights of walking , touring and water-based activities, there are many superb attractions. These include the Windermere Steamboat Museum, Brockholes National Park Centre, the World of Beatrix Potter exhibition, and Troutbeck's famous Townend House, a seventeenth century farmhouse. These delightful attractions can be complemented with visits to the engrossing heritage sites of Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, Beatrix Potter's Hilltop House, and Ruskin's Brantwood. This is only a small taster of the multiplicity of things one can do here in the most famous of all National Parks- The Lake District! | |
